To prove that an animal is really race, the only valid document is a pedigree. There are different cat associations that are dedicated to making these pedigrees.

The pedigree is nothing more than a genetic tree that can be traced up to 5 or six generations. This certifies that the animal that has it may be a pure race, as all its ancestors must be included with race and color name. Furthermore, in the pedigree, must contain the animal's birth date, race, color, name of the breeder, the breeder's kennel and occasionally, according to the association that is issued by the quality of the animal. There are two types of pedigrees, as the animal is enrolled in the stud book or experimental record of origins. In the stud book animals are listed which are pure breed according to their genealogy, the origins experimental record of animals are listed as coming from a hybridization between 2 or more races, animals that exhibit a color not recognized by the association or a breed not recognized, or animals lacking complete 5 generations in his pedigree but have shown in an exhibition that belong to that race and their descendants until complete 5 generations.

The pedigrees are emitted by cat associations which in turn belong to a Federation of International level is that states recognized breeds and colors. World Cat Federation (WCF) is one of these federations, the only one that has a presence in 5 continents, the 540 Club up being the responsibility of: the International Registry of affixes, training of judges, feline standards, exposure standards, international relations with other clubs, associations or federations, and coordination of the exhibition schedule. Under this infrastructure each club or association operates independently and may adjust the regulations in their own way while respecting the minimum standards imposed by WCF.

In Spain there are 4 to WCF member associations, the Association Feline de Catalunya (ASFEC) Feline Association Gallega (ASFEGA), the Cat Club of Madrid (CFM), and Clu of the 7 Canary Islands. Each of these associations independently handles pedigrees may be those approved automatically by the other three. The pedigrees processing system is quite similar in all four. To obtain a pedigree stud book belonging to the breeder must be registered on this to the parents of the cat. Once registered breeder parents must have an affix to indicate that this animal has been raised by him. Then, after a litter is born, the breeder has a period of approximately 4 months to register all puppies in a litter higher. Once you get high litter in the club or association, is granted a registration number to each puppy and is issued to him a sheet of transfer of ownership that consists of all data on the cat, name, race, color, date of birth and three full generations. Transfer sheets are sent to the breeder to be delivered to new owners of the kittens.
Once the new owner receives the transfer sheet must re-submit it to the club or association stating all your data to be entered in the stud book that the ownership of the animal breeder has changed to the new owner. Once the association receives the completed form, register the animal with his new owner and issue the final pedigree consisting also of all animal data and full five generations. The cat owner finally receive the final pedigree which is the registered owner and a sheet of transfer of ownership in case it decides to change again after a while.
